Kevin A. Michael focuses his practice on complex litigation, appeals and insurance coverage matters for London Market and domestic insurers, as well as the defense of their insureds.  

Kevin counsels many of the world’s largest insurers on all types of insurance coverage matters, including general liability, construction risks, errors & omissions, and environmental policies. Kevin also devotes much of his practice to resolving first-party property claims and disputes. He frequently litigates coverage and bad faith cases in both state and federal court. Kevin also has extensive experience defending liquor liability, professional negligence, construction defect, and maritime claims. He handles matters at both the trial and appellate levels throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Kevin graduated from the University of Washington having studied political science and speech communication. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Washington in 2005, where he was the managing editor of the Shidler Journal of Law, Commerce and Technology and a member of the Moot Court Honor Board. While in law school, he served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Robert S. Lasnik, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. Prior to joining the firm. Kevin participated in Cozen O'Connor's summer associate program.

If it is Not Clearly Excluded, it Must be Included: "Fair Market Value" Includes Unpaid Sales Tax in Washington State - Insurance Coverage Alert! - On September 9, 2010, the Washington Supreme Court once again proved it will go to great lengths to protect policyholders in disputes with their insurers. In Holden v. Farmers Ins. Co. of Washington, — P.3d — (Sept. 9, 2010), the court deemed ambiguous the actual cash value (“ACV”) provision in a renters policy. The court concluded that because the definition of ACV “does not clearly exclude sales tax” then sales tax must be included in ACV calculations.
