PHILADELPHIA – June 12, 2023 – In a move that further enhances its fast-growing Reputational Management & Crisis Communications practice, Cozen O’Connor today announced that nationally recognized communications strategist Kyle D. Anderson has joined Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, the firm’s government relations practice. Anderson, who brings to the firm more than three decades of serving as a senior communications adviser to clients ranging from the Democratic National Party to the multi-billion-dollar Walton Family Foundation, joins Public Strategies as a senior principal and will work out of its Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia offices.
Anderson’s many accomplishments include serving as executive director of the 58-member Congressional Black Caucus, where he helped advance critical legislation related to voting rights, social justice, and equitable distribution of COVID-19 relief, and serving as Democratic staff director for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on House Administration, which is responsible for overseeing operations and administration of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Kyle brings to us an incredible track record of successfully guiding a wide array of clients through what are often sensitive, high-profile communications issues,” said Howard Schweitzer, CEO of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies. “As a senior communications adviser, his experience and success will greatly benefit our clients as we continue to expand our communications practice on a national level. Furthermore, his experience at the nexus of government and communications fits perfectly with our leading government affairs practice.”
Cozen O'Connor Public Strategies launched its Strategic Communications/Reputation Management Practice in October 2022 with the hiring of Tilden Katz, a senior principal. This practice has quickly expanded to advise clients on their critical media and communications needs across the United States.
Anderson’s political track record also includes serving as deputy communications lead for the 2016 Democratic National Convention — leading a team of high-performing communications professionals charged with managing more than 1,000 local, national, and international media organizations — for the most successful and diverse Democratic Convention in history.
He also led communications and community relations for the billion-dollar Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), where he managed the regional transportation and infrastructure agency’s communications and messaging around the 2015 Philadelphia Papal Visit, as well as numerous large-scale capital projects.
Most recently, he served as senior vice president of External Affairs for the America 250 Foundation — the United States Semi-Quincentennial Commission. The foundation is tasked with planning and executing the observance and commemoration of the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies and I’m very much looking forward to working with Howard, Tilden and the rest of our team,” Anderson said. “Ours is an organization that strengthens a client’s reputation when there is no immediate threat and responds forcefully when issues appear. Further, our ability to draw upon resources of our government relations professionals and our parent law firm, Cozen O’Connor, is an invaluable asset to our clients.”
Anderson earned his B.A. in political science — with extensive coursework in economics — at Swarthmore College.
