"The key to successful integration of a lateral general counsel is clear communication by both the firm and the attorney as to what the goals and expectations are, consultants and former GCs have said." According to Chris, "business development is critical." He also suggests that "an in-house counsel looking to join a firm has to identify the three or four things that he or she does well that a client would buy from an outside law firm."
