Stephen Pate, a member in the firm's Global Insurance Department, was quoted in Law360's article, "Insurance Cases To Watch In 2019." Stephen discussed First Acceptance Insurance Co. v. Hughes case. The Georgia Supreme Court will have the chance to address the prerequisites for an insured to sue its insurance carrier for bad faith as it decides whether First Acceptance Insurance Co. of Georgia Inc. must face a multimillion-dollar suit over its alleged failure to settle a policyholder's claim within limits. Stephen believes "This is simply not a circumstance where the carrier acted in bad faith. It was negligence. Bad faith ought to be more than negligence or a minor infraction. There must be a real attempt on the part of the insurer to do wrong by its insured."
