USCIS announces new Form I-9, will allow permanent remote review for E-Verify users

Monday, July 24, 2023

Scott Bettridge spoke with HR Dive about the updated Form I-9 announced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Citizenship and Immigration Services, which will be available on August 1, 2023. The agency will allow alternative document examination procedures instead of in-person review. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced an alternative option to be available to E-Verify participant employers on the same date. This option will allow employers to review remote documentation and verification via live video. Scott said that the availability of a remote verification process through E-Verify is “definitely welcome news” for employers that have been gearing up for remote verification in some form. “E-Verify is not perfect, but it’s a good system that takes a burden off of employers,” he added.
