Peter Ennis will be presenting at the Allegheny County Bar Association on the responsibilities of board members when harassment issues occur. As part of their responsibilities as board members, directors should work to ensure that their nonprofit organizations have policies and procedures in place to discourage all forms of harassment. While prevention is always best, there is no way to guarantee that harassment will not arise in the workplace. What should a board do to make sure that the workplace environment gives nonprofit employees the ability to surface concerns? And when a harassment issue does arise at a nonprofit, what should the board do as a result?

This program will tackle this difficult but important issue. Specifics to be covered include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of nonprofit board members.
  • The special role and ethical complications of being an attorney on a nonprofit board.
  • Policies and procedures for a safer workplace environment.
  • Best practices for investigating workplace issues.
  • Best practices in crisis management.
