Midtown East Rezoning: Not for the Faint-Hearted

Ken Fisher, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Business Law Department, discusses the new zoning plan in Manhattan’s Great East Midtown district in a Q&A in the Commercial Property Executive. The rezoning plan is designed to help developers by, increasing the construction of more modern office buildings, generating money to improve the area’s transit and other streetscapes, and allowing landmarks to monetize their unused development rights. The new zoning plan also brings challenges, Ken explains “only well-capitalized, sophisticated developers with experience in dealing with the public sector will have the resources to tackle development under the new rules”.
