WASHINGTON, D.C., October 18, 2021 — Barry Boss, co-chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Group and co-chair, of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department, has been named a 2021 South Trailblazer (the South includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia) by The American Lawyer. The Trailblazer series is a special supplement developed by the business arm of The American Lawyer, recognizing professionals across the countries and in various industries who have moved the needle in the legal industry. For Trailblazers South, a handful of individuals from each practice area were chosen who are truly agents of change.
Since 2008, Boss and his team have focused on helping establish a legal and regulatory framework for this multi-billion-dollar industry. Most recently, Boss and his team won a first-of-its-kind agreement from the DOJ in September 2020 on behalf of his client, 5Dimes, a major offshore sports-betting operator. The agreement allows 5Dimes to apply for entry into the U.S. regulated sports-wagering industry, establishes a roadmap for other offshore gambling companies, and represents a major shift in the federal government’s approach to offshore sports-betting in the future. Boss has extensive jury trial and appellate experience and has successfully defended individuals and corporations under scrutiny for a wide range of criminal activity throughout the country, including price-fixing, money laundering, fraud, environmental offenses, gambling, bribery, corruption, and racketeering. He also advises individuals, including senior and C-suite executives, in complex internal and government-facing investigations, often involving multiple multinational jurisdictions and authorities.
