PHILADELPHIA, June 1, 2021 — E. Gerald Riesenbach, a member of Cozen O'Connor’s Business Practice, has been recognized by The Legal Intelligencer as a 2020 Professional Excellence Award winner in the Lifetime Achievement category. The award is given to attorneys from all corners of the legal profession in Pennsylvania, including jurists, office holders, and anyone else who has left an imprint on the legal history of the state during their career. Over six decades, Riesenbach has built a vast network of friendships, renown practice groups, and a legacy of legal innovation having founded practice groups in health law and in public finance.
Riesenbach has a comprehensive background resulting from many years of experience representing businesses, both public and privately owned, in and outside the health care industry, including mergers and acquisitions, public offerings of tax exempt debt, and of equity securities. Riesenbach’s health care experience includes the development of tax exempt financing in Pennsylvania for life care communities, the representation of nonprofit and for-profit hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers, health care consulting and management companies, HMOs, health care lenders and investment bankers, home health agencies, and other individuals and businesses associated with the health care industry. He has also represented many senior executives of public and private companies in the negotiation of their employment or severance arrangements.
Riesenbach is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and the Temple University Beasley School of Law where he was a member of its Law Review
Throughout his career, Riesenbach has been deeply involved in public service. He is the former president and chair of the Philadelphia Theatre Company, vice chair of the Board of Trustees of the Albert Einstein Medical Center, vice president of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni organization, and president of the Alumni Class Leadership Council. He is the recipient of Penn’s Alumni Award of Merit and is a Fellow of the College of Physicians. Riesenbach also served on the boards of the Pennsylvania Hospital Trustee Association, Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, Martin’s Run Life Care Community, Adath Israel Congregation, Freedoms Foundation Valley Forge, the Arts and Business Council of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Advisory Council of the Avenue of the Arts and the Philadelphia Jaycees.
