Cozen O’Connor has been named a Law360 2022 Practice Group of the Year in Cannabis. Joe Bedwick and Patrick Martin spoke with Law360 to discuss the recognition. Law360 highlighted the group assisting Planet 13 Holdings Inc. in registering as a domestic issuer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and helped technology company Dutchie start its online cannabis payment platform. "We are a group made up of virtually every specialty in this full-service firm with individuals who have developed an expertise in cannabis, both in how cannabis impacts their specialty and in how the cannabis regulations impact their overall home jurisdiction," said Joe. "When someone classifies themselves as a cannabis attorney, more often than not that means they help clients get licenses or are involved in limited regulatory aspects of the industry. Our clients are large public companies engaged in a regulated industry that need the same business council as any widget company," said Joe. He added that the practice group stands apart from those at other large firms thanks in part to its lobbying team, which is headed by Patrick Martin. "Our clients were sophisticated and took a very proactive approach to dealing with state regulators," Patrick said. "We were brought out to help Dutchie speak to different state governments. That proactive kind of communication can be really helpful," Patrick added.
