A Trump Conviction Depends on Proving More Than a Hush-Money Coverup

Jerry Goldfeder was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article discussing whether Donald Trump knew that Michael Cohen’s payment to Stormy Daniels violated the Federal Election Campaign Act. According to Jerry, the prosecution has benefited from testimonial evidence that Trump approved of the hush-money arrangement to protect his campaign, which was already reeling from the leaked “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump discussed groping women. “The law in New York doesn’t require a presidential candidate to be an authority on the specifics of campaign finance law, but it is impossible that Trump didn’t know that $130,000 was way over the $2,700 limit,” said Jerry.
