According to Jerry, the prosecution has benefited from testimonial evidence that Trump approved of the hush-money arrangement to protect his campaign, which was already reeling from the leaked “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump discussed groping women. “The law in New York doesn’t require a presidential candidate to be an authority on the specifics of campaign finance law, but it is impossible that Trump didn’t know that $130,000 was way over the $2,700 limit,” said Jerry.
