James H. Curls-Scott

James concentrates his practice on subrogation matters, bringing a strong background in both civil and criminal litigation.

Prior to joining Cozen O'Connor, James was a deputy public defender with the Los Angeles Public Defender's Office. In this role, he represented defendants in misdemeanor and felony cases, earning several not-guilty verdicts and dismissals on behalf of his clients. Before that, he worked as a civil litigation attorney with a boutique law firm in Los Angeles, where he defended clients in contract disputes, business torts (including fraud), probate, real estate, and commercial lease disputes.

James earned his J.D. from LMU Loyola Law School after attending Western State College of Law, where he was a member of the Western State Law Review. While in law school, James received academic awards for achieving the highest grades in both Negotiations and Criminal Law. James also studied abroad in The Hague, Netherlands, where he studied international criminal law at the International Criminal Court as well as various international criminal tribunals.
