Punching In: Employers Brace for Trump Immigration Raids, Audits

Scott Bettridge was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article discussing how employers should brace for tougher immigration audits under the incoming administration, which is expected to increase enforcement, including surprise raids and heightened I-9 scrutiny. Scott added, “This enforcement may come fast, unannounced, and really without much warning.” These audits, which surged during the first Trump administration, could disrupt industries with significant immigrant labor, such as manufacturing and construction. Employers are advised to conduct internal I-9 audits to avoid steep penalties, with fines of up to $27,894 per unauthorized worker. While E-Verify use can reduce penalties, it doesn’t guarantee immunity from audits.
